GLYNT Shadows: One-Step Pre-Pigmentation with GLYNT Shadows!

We’re back for our final round-up of our GLYNT mini blog series, and we’re focusing on Mix Tones and Pre-Pigmentation!

Mix Tones are available as Shadows Plus shades and can be added to Shadows Demi and Shadows Plus formulas to:

·         Intensify a Tone

·         Add/Enhance a Tone

·         Neutralise

·         For pre-pigmentation, when going 2 levels darker or more

So let’s look at the tones available...

0.13      Olive

0.18      Ash

0.3        Gold

0.4        Copper

0.5        Red

0.6         Violet

0.8        Blue

0.81      Petrol

0.13 Olive is a softer Green compared to Petrol

0.18 Ash is an intense cool grey tone

0.81 Petrol is a mix of Blue + Green and is darker

Mix tones can’t be used alone; however, they are pure pigment, so always mix 2 parts of colour with up to 1 part Mix tones when formulating and make sure you account for them in your final formula amount!

What about going 2 levels darker or more?

With GLYNT, you can achieve one-step pre-pigmentation with the addition of a natural base shade when white hair isn’t present.

This rule works by adding 1 part fashion tone + 1 part Natural tone (e.g. 4.0 + 4.6)

When pre-pigmenting, we need to add the missing tones back into the hair, using the Pre-Pigmentation Table below (which is also in the colour chart...winner!)

Once we have established our target shade and what missing tones need to be added, we can then use the Mix Tone Table to help us formulate:

Using 30g of colour, we must add 50% of a natural shade to achieve the depth and cover required. We can then add the required mix tone amount to achieve one-step pre-pigmentation!

Remember: Levels 6 & 7 require two mix tones to be combined. When working at level 6, more 0.4 is needed, as it’s listed first. When working at level 7, more 0.3 is needed!

Got it?! Here’s an example just in case...

Starting Level: 10.0

Target Level: 6.7

Level 6 = 0.4 + 0.3 mix tone (need more 0.4 as it’s listed first) = 2.5g mix tone needed with 30g of colour

(split to 1.8g 0.4 + 0.7g 0.3 using GLYNT Scales)

Using 30g of colour, our formula would be:

15g 6.0 + 15g 6.7  + 1.8g 0.4 + 0.7g 0.3 + 2% ENERGIZER, 1:2 mixing ratio.

(We would use DEMI shades here because no lift is required, and it’s softer on the hair!)

Process for 30 mins on normal hair and 40 mins on coarse hair. It’s as simple as that!

What if you’re concerned about the integrity of your client's hair?

We can do a 2-step pre-pigmentation using MANGALA as our secret weapon! This will restore the condition of the hair, fill the holes in the cuticle and ensure even colour distribution. Think of it as a Pre-Pre-Pigmentation!

When choosing this option, select the correct shade of MANGALA using the MANGALA recommended Mix Table:

Apply to freshly washed, towel-dried hair and process for 5-10 mins and blot dry.

Then you can continue with the pre-pigmentation step-by-step using GLYNT Shadows!

Remember: You can’t just do a MANGALA pre-pigmentation alone; it has to be followed by the GLYNT Shadows pre-pigmentation method for longevity!

Here’s an example using the same client from before...

Starting Level: Very damaged 10.0

Target Level 6.7

Wash the hair using VOLUME shampoo and towel-dry

Apply HYDRO care spray to even out the porosity

For a level 6 formulate:

20 parts Brunette + 1 part Copper

Process for 5-10 mins and blot dry before continuing with the pre-pigmentation using GLYNT Shadows.

What if you need more or less than 30g of GLYNT Shadows colour, I hear you ask?!

You can formulate by halving the example or doubling it! Just make sure you also double or half the mix tone required and ensure 50% of your formula contains your target base level shade!
