Hey Gorgies!
We’ve been busy educating all things GLYNT, and we’re back to carry on with our mini blog series...
Today we’re covering Pastellisation, and how you can achieve more sheer results from GLYNT Shadows colour!
Let’s get stuck in!
Within our GLYNT Shadows colour chart, not all colours are available as both Permanent and Demi-Permanent, as we’ve already discussed, so when it comes to more transparent colouring, blending, melting and everything in between, pastellisation is your best friend!
So what does Pastellisation mean???
Pastellisation is the process of creating soft, delicate hair colours and can be used to:
Tone Blondes
Colour Correct
Neutralise
Offer more sheer colours
Colour refresh
Melt/Blend white hair
Achieve a softer result on porous hair
Things to consider when Pastellising:
Dilution of your formula is essential!
Use the lowest developer possible
Ensures subtle fading that’s true-to-tone
Normally requires a short process time, so process by eye!
Ok, still with us?!...
How do we Pastellise?!
So not only do we have our Pastels section in our GLYNT Shadows Colour Chart, which are specially designed to tone levels 9-10 at a 1:3 mix ratio, but we can also achieve Pastellisation with nearly EVERY shade in the colour chart (except our Shadows Plus High-Lifts, as their power is in the developer!)
The mix ratio is always 1:3 with 2% Energizer, so 1 part colour to 3 parts developer.
This formula is applied evenly to the hair and processed for 5-30 minutes, depending on the intensity required.
If you want more sheer results or are working on more porous hair, up to 15 minutes is enough! When colour refreshing or neutralising, you can leave it on for longer!
What if our formula contains Shadows Plus Permanent colour? Will it lift the natural hair?!
Yes! But fear not, GLYNT Shadows pH Transformer Additive is here! (GLYNT really have thought of everything!)

This clever addition reduces the pH value of a formula containing Shadows Plus to pH 5-6, which prevents lightening of the uncoloured, natural hair when using pastellisation!
For example:
Mix Ratio: 1gram of pH Transformer to every 10grams of colour
(The amount of developer is not taken into account)
E.g:
10g 10.1+
+
10g 9.6
= 20g + 2g pH Transformer 1:3 = 60g 2% ENERGIZER
If you are pastellising with a warm-toned colour, or want the natural hair to lift slightly, then you don’t have to add it into your formula!
So there you have it! Achieve endless pastel opportunities with GLYNT Shadows Colour!
Next blog coming soon...We’re talking all things Pre-Pigmentation and Mix Tones!
